Public Art Project

Values of Creating Safe Space

The Parade of Hearts (POH) is a community-based initiative that illuminates a pathway in which people can envision a new normal and bring healing to communities using artistic expression. After experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, and social justice tensions, interventions that center on healing, wellness, and community are needed.

POH is an art installation project featuring ten (10) five-foot fiberglass hearts designed by community members working with local artists. This restorative initiative will be a driving force for implementing change and transformation in predominately minority communities experiencing the greatest hardship.

Kenwood Community

Three figures on the heart is to depict participants from the community Zoom meeting. I selected three people. The color and face expression emphasizes solidarity from the neighborhood.

Safe Space

I added text and three hand icons from the discussion. There was a chance to share two values, a safe space and the answer was : Trust, Knowledge, Open communication, Authenticity, Grace, Patience, Inclusivity. I added the text because I want to honor the community's voice.
