Celadon Dream and Museum Studies

My interdisciplinary practice is rooted in ethnographic research and reflectivity to pose larger questions of place, space, and memory. In Celadon Dream and Museum Studies, I examine celadon ceramic objects to contextualize them within studies of these artifacts from South Korea and in Chicago. I also collect sand and rocks from the site where I lived in Seoul, juxtaposing my memories of the location with family narratives about celadon. Through site-specific materials —watercolor, acrylic paint, artist book, essay (writing), and public talk —I attempt to collapse the historical and personal contexts of Koreaness living in the Midwest in the US and S. Korea.
