The project at Mana Contemporary in Chicago, Space Intervention*, is investigating the broaden idea of demarcation. First of all, I pose the question, how the physicality of the painting surface to be used to convey the feeling of the architecture and present of the body.

Also, I question how the indexical presence of the artist’s body is revealed in the photographic surface and in relationship to the monumentality of architecture.

Lastly, is the idea of the border only derived from Western epistemology? By studying cartography in different cultures, how can we reshape the history of mapping and rethink the epistemology of mapping?

*Space Intervention was the part of the class project of professor Dawit Petros in PHOTO 3005-007: Site Photography (2016).
